We’ve issued a First Alert Weather Day due to the severe weather expected today.The Storm Prediction Center has placed central Mississippi under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3/5) for severe weather. Storms will move in this afternoon and continue into the evening as they track east. This system can produce all modes of severe weather, so please stay informed throughout the day. Even ahead of the storm line, we could experience winds up to 40-50 mph, which are not associated with the storms.Timing: 12:00 PM to 6:00 PMImpacts: Damaging winds up to 70 mph, likely tornadoes (some potentially strong), and large hail up to quarter size possible.Be sure to have multiple ways to stay updated as we track the situation throughout the day. Check with your local district for any early dismissals due to the severe weather threat.Once this system passes, we’ll experience calm, cool weather for the rest of the week. JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Overnight, clouds will start to increase across the area as temperatures fall to the lower 70s.Temperatures will rise back to the lower and middle 90s for Tuesday afternoon as well. More pop-up downpours will be more likely tomorrow ahead of even wetter weather by mid to late week.We’re expecting an approaching front to become stationary across the region by this upcoming Wednesday/Thursday. This will result in an increasing potential of widespread showers, heavy rain, and thunderstorms. Parts of central MS could see up to 2-3″ of rain through the end of the week. The rain will also come along with cooler weather. Highs are forecast to only reach the upper 70s to lower 80s by mid-week.
